چکیده

Influence of aqueous phase properties and process parameters on kaolinite particle zeta potential was quantified by electrophoresis experiments. The results indicated that pH strongly altered the zeta potential of kaolinite and it decreases at the beginning and then increases in the range of pH = 2–13. The activity of different cations changes the zeta potential and has the following tendency of Al > Ca > Mg > Na and the zeta potential increases due to heterocoagulation of different mineral particles in suspension. It was found that the zeta potential of kaolinite particles increases after the suspension was stirred and decreases at the beginning, and then increases with soaking time. The FTIR results showed that the zeta potential takes into account ion adsorption and the change of Si–O, Al–O and Al–OH groups on the surface of the kaolinite particles.

Advantages and limitations of the synchrotron based transmission X-ray microscopy in the study of the clay aggregate structure in aqueous suspensions.

This paper reports new application of new transmission X-ray microscopy powered by a synchrotron source for the study of aqueous based clay suspensions. This paper delineates the advantages and limitations of this method. The tested transmission X-ray microscopy (TXM) technique has shown good agreement with the cryo-stage SEM technique. The spacial resolution of this TXM technique is 60 nm and ...

General electrokinetic model for concentrated suspensions in aqueous electrolyte solutions: Electrophoretic mobility and electrical conductivity in static electric fields.

In recent years different electrokinetic cell models for concentrated colloidal suspensions in aqueous electrolyte solutions have been developed. They share some of its premises with the standard electrokinetic model for dilute colloidal suspensions, in particular, neglecting both the specific role of the so-called added counterions (i.e., those released by the particles to the solution as they...

The Effect of Electrolyte Concentration and Ph on the Flocculation and Rheological Behaviour of Kaolinite Suspensions

The effects of the electrolyte concentration and pH on the settling behaviour, floc sizes and rheological behaviour of kaolinite suspensions were investigated. The results show that the settling behaviour of kaolinite changes with the ionic strength and pH of the suspension. In the acidic pH range, (pH 2) particles settle in flocculated form regardless of electrolyte concentration, however, in ...

Dispersion Properties of Nano YSZ Particles in Aqueous Suspensions

In the present research, the aqueous suspensions of nano-sized YSZ particles were prepared using a common and available dispersant (Dolapix CE64) at different pH values and their stability were evaluated through the sedimentation height, viscosity measurement, and microstructural observation. Different amounts of dispersant were tested and the optimum percentage was examined by measuring the vi...

Distinctive electrokinetic behavior of nanoporous silica particles treated with cationic polyelectrolyte

In this study we show, for the first time, that the streaming potential of aqueous suspensions of nanoporous silica gel, after treatment with the ationic polyelectrolyte poly-diallyldimethylammonium chloride (poly-DADMAC), can depend very strongly on the concentration of background lectrolyte. An increase in the electrical conductivity from 60 to 1000 S/cm resulted in an approximately 1000-fold...
